The challenge of CO2 Capture
APComPower Inc. is working in conjunction with our parent company's, Alstom Power, R&D teams on perfecting processes that will make it possible to collect CO2 during electricity generation.
These technologies participate in the fight against climate change. Once collected, the CO2 can be stocked which will prevent it from entering the atmosphere. The technologies on which Alstom is working have the advantage of being adaptable to both new and existing power stations. These research, today at experimental stage, is being conducted in partnership with research organisations, public organisations, and of course, with power utilities. Several pilot power stations are in the process of being built.
Key facts about CO2 capture
- the Earth’s average temperature rose by 0.74° between 1906 and 2005
- Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the main greenhouse gases contributing to global warming
- The processes developed by Alstom can be used with new or exitsing power plants
- Once captured, the CO2 can be sequestrated.
- Latest research shows that the chilled ammonia capture process can reduce CO2 emitted from combustion by 90%
