The jurisdiction of the Kansas City District includes Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, N Dakota, S Dakota, Minnesota and the southern third of Illinois. The District office and warehouse are located 20 miles south of downtown Kansas City in Lenexa Kansas. The District also has one sub offices located St Louis Missouri.
The Districts primary source of revenue over the last twenty years has been from maintenance and repair work on pulverized coal units. Over the past ten years the District has average 443,400 maintenance and repair work man-hours per year with a peak of 852,000 MH's in 2002 during the NPPD project in Sutherland Nebraska, which at that time was the largest contract ever for Thermal Services.
Talking of large projects, Alstom is currently completing the KCP&L Iatan project on a D&E basis. APComPower portion of the project includes the installation of a new 850MW Super Critical Pulverized Coal Steam Generator, Fabric Filter, and Absorber. The award also included the installation of a SCR, Fabric Filter, and Absorber on the existing unit at the site. APComPower mobilized the Weston Missouri site located on the Missouri River 30 miles north of downtown Kansas City in April of 2007. Work on both units started at that time with ground fabrication activities. Unit 1's equipment was put in operation in 2008. Unit 2 boiler steel started in August of 2007 and the hydrostatic test was completed in September of 2009, Commercial Operation is scheduled for September 2010.
