The Atlanta District office was started in 1981. At that time we were well along with the construction of Unit #1 at Georgia Power Company, Plant Scherer and performing various maintenance projects for both Utility and Pulp and Paper customers.
In 1984, the District jurisdiction expanded to include Florida except for the Florida Panhandle, which was still a part of the Birmingham District. In 1995, the Birmingham office was merged with the Atlanta District. With this merger the Atlanta District area of responsibility now covers 177,666 square miles including the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi Power Company, and Bowater in Calhoun, Tennessee. The Atlanta District office and warehouse is located approximately 20 miles Northeast of Atlanta in Suwanee, Georgia.
Since the late 1980’s, maintenance construction has been our primary market. Until approximately ten years ago, our business consisted of a 50/50 mix between utility and pulp and paper. Utility maintenance now represents approximately 95% of our business.
